I took a Silver Sneakers course for older people. I would find that after I worked out for an hour, I was better the rest of the day.
Then I couldn't do it anymore, I started to walk with difficulty, I stopped driving too. Now I use a trainer. He is extraordinary. He picks me up and drives me to the gym. I work out with him then he drives me home. Some days I go to the beauty parlor next door and he'll wait for me and drive me home. He would make the perfect CNN hero.
My husband bought me a computer and taught me how to use it. I’m 86 and many people my age don't use them. Now I can send emails to my grandchildren. They said they'll help me with Facetime and they want to get me an iPad. Obviously face-to-face is better, but it's a pretty good second. It is pretty neat.
I enjoy my neighbors. I'm the oldest person living in the oldest house on the block.
Also, I keep a phone book of old friends. Some of them have passed away but their names are still there. I will just call someone out of the blue I haven't seen in 10 years or something. It is a very good feeling. I need social contact.
I'm grateful that I have lived to this age and that I have a supportive family and friends. It is great. I'm very lucky.
Life is good.
