Pantaleon H.
I am from Honduras. I came to the United States in 1969. At that time, the war was going on in Vietnam, so I joined the armed forces. I did my time. I became a citizen. Then after that I came back to New York City where I lived.
I was 49 on the day they told me that I had Parkinson’s, it was the beginning of a different type of life. Now I am 68.
I believe that when it's time to go, no matter what you do, you're going to have to get onto that train. I enjoyed life. I tried to not to get aggravated with people or anything else. That's why I live in Honduras most of the time now.
Life is slow. There’s less pressure. I like to be on the beach, in the quiet ... in a place where it's not too crowded. Stress is bad for Parkinson's.
I'm happy with my life, it could've been worse. So I give thanks to the creator who still has me moving around, appreciating the things people do for me, and always looking forward to helping people when I can.
There was a time to build, now it's time to enjoy the result of what I did before. I can't complain. I know how to balance myself. I don't get over my budget and I let people understand that there’s time for everything.
The first thing to do is be at peace with the people you live with, with the family and not to think that this is the end of life. Like I say, I'm happy. I still can take care of myself, but it's always good to have somebody beside you, because you never know. I'm very careful. I don't climb ladders, and I know what I can do and what I cannot take chances with.
I really appreciate the United States and to be a citizen. I appreciate what it’s done for me.
