Wayne M.
I was diagnosed in December of 2014. At the time I was fifty years old. I suspect I had it before then.
I was in Jamaica doing some construction work and I noticed that my right arm wasn't swinging when I was walking. And I started having these issues where I felt like I was having a stroke. I went to the doctor, they couldn't find anything. So I had to come back to the US. Being a veteran, I went to the VA hospital, and they kept me there for 27 days trying to figure out what was wrong with me.
Now I'm living on SNAP benefits, $160 a month for food and $91 a month in cash. I make it work. I've got three older brothers and they pitch in from time to time.
I'd like to open a business. A chain of Caribbean stores and leave the operations to my daughters, my children. So that's what I'm hoping to regain my strength to do.
You know, honestly, I should say this to you, I think I'm going to find the remedy for the Parkinson's because I've been doing a lot of research and I've been using a lot of holistic type products and detoxification, this kind of thing. And I've seen results. Even coconut water, the natural coconut water not from a can or box but from the coconut itself. I buy it at the Terminal Market in Brooklyn. See I used to do the importation of those kinds of products so I know where to find them.
I'd like to write a book about life strategies and the experiences that I've had. It would be a story of someone growing up on an island, migrating to the United States as a teenager, dealing with all the obstacles and all the goods and bads of living in the inner city and made it to a point where they were able to return to the island, only to be confronted with having to return to the city to get better medical care.
